Puddings for a cure

The Alport Foundation of Australia has been supported by PUDDING LANE since 2010.

Every year our volunteers take PUDDING LANE Christmas puddings to local markets, shopping centres, Carols by Candlelight events, school fetes, sporting clubs and local community events held from October to December.
Order forms are also distributed by email to regular supporters of this annual fundraising campaign.

PUDDING LANE Christmas puddings are handmade, boiled in the cloth the old fashioned way in Newcastle, NSW.

With eleven different varieties, there is a pudding to suit every persons taste and diet, including Vegan and Gluten free.

No Artificial Colours, Preservatives or Flavours are used in these delicious puddings!

Why are we proud to be supported by PUDDING LANE?

PUDDING LANE make award winning gourmet puddings in Newcastle using a unique handmade method and a strict provenance of all ingredients. The company were Winners of the Inaugural Australian Food Challenge Award for" Sustainable Manufacturer " in 2006 and again in 2009, and those methods have not changed.

Pudding Lane are committed to keeping the “carbon footprint” and “food miles” as low as possible in the following ways:

• All ingredients are selected from quality producers located as close as possible to the factory in Sandgate, and the preparation is by hand- no automated processes, no production lines, no electric steam ovens, no plastic basins, bowls or moulds (every pudding is unique). The factory utilises solar heated water, grey water capture for staff facilities and gardens, energy efficient lighting and gas fired coppers

• Local bread, free-range eggs and Australian dried fruit

• Bread is crumbed by hand and eggs are hand cracked! The egg shells are collected for organic waste recycling

• The “wet mix” is hand stirred and hand weighed into calico bags

• Calico bags are reused over and over, and if torn, they are cut down in size for a smaller pudding cloth and even the twine is sorted, reused or allocated for recycling

• Puddings are hand hung on a line and boiled in efficient gas fired coppers, then hand hung again to dry and mature naturally in advance for Christmas

• Hand wrapped in cotton cloths, sewn and printed by the local 'House with No Steps' organisation

• Pudding labels are made from Australian post-consumer recycled waste, and printed with vegetable-based ink

• Hand packed in cartons made of 100% recycled Australian material

• 100% of cardboard, paper, plastic & packaging (from flour, sugar bags, fruit and eggs) is reused or recycled

• 99.6% of total waste per year is reused or recycled – that’s like a household putting out 2 standard bins per year!
